Admirable Character Traits of Disney Princesses (Part 4)

Today’s princess is the sprightful redhead, Ariel. And her positive traits follow the picture.
  1. Child-like – She had big dreams and she was fascinated by the simplest things (like driving a horse carriage), her child-like side won many hearts and made it so nobody could be angry with her for long
  2. Made people laugh – while in her human form she couldn’t say a word, yet the simple things she did, her mannerisms and happy attitude made the people around her happy.
  3. Loved to sing / Happy - she was a happy soul and loved to sing. (Added after Regina's comment - Thank You!)
  4. Loved learning new things - she enjoyed learning, and was always exploring new ideas (Added after Regina's comment - Thank You!)
  5. Energetic/Fun-loving/Outgoing – she was always on the go.  This was one active young woman, always searching for new discoveries and adventures (although this does get her into trouble)
For the first time, Disney didn’t make a “Perfect” princess.  I’m going to write about some negative character traits, these made the character more “human”.  These negative traits do indicate that we should strive to be the opposite though.
  1. Disobedient – She disobeyed her father in going up to the surface, even though she was following her heart, that still isn’t a reason to disobey your parents, especially since he was a loving father who was genuinely looking out for his daughter’s safety.
  2. Stubborn and determined – this can be a positive trait when the person is stubborn and determined to pursue righteous pursuits, but in Ariel’s case it was mostly fuel for her disobedience to her father.
I now open the floor to my readers.  Can anyone think of other admirable or not so admirable traits Ariel had?

Admirable character traits of Disney Princesses (Part 3)

The third princess in the series is princess Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty.

 Princess aurora21.jpg

Aurora is a princess who appears to not show much “personality” during the movie, so I found it rather difficult to find her character traits, but I think that this may be one of her character traits.  So here is my list of admirable qualities that she has, that I feel women should strive to possess.

  1. Soft Spoken – when she speaks she is soft and gentle, she is never loud or harsh.
  2. Sophisticated Air – she comes across as a princess, and I suppose she would expect anyone to treat her with respect. She is the sort of women who would be classified as a Lady.
  3. Kind and Selfless – She was always kind to others despite having the sophisticated air about her, and she would put other people’s needs above her own.
  4. Obedient – For the most part, she listened obediently and followed instructions.

And those are the character traits I saw in Aurora, can anyone think of any more?

The end of an awesome weekend

Sunday morning I finally got around to hanging up the black curtains in the living room.  I have only had lace curtains in the living room since I moved in.

Zoey decided that my washing basket was a great deal like her bed and made herself comfortable there.

Mark finished off the project he started on Saturday morning.  I found a metal wire spider in a tree in the garden, so I decided to hang it where it is more noticeable.

Zoey was playing in the leaves, and got a leaf stuck to her.  With it’s position it reminds me of the drawings of Adam and Eve in children’s Bibles!

We had a lovely Sunday Braai with Mark’s cousin and his fiancé. Here are some pictures of the food we ate.  The Braai was held at my house.

My Sunday finished off with Church at the Kovsie Kerk (the student church for those who don’t know).  We had a wonderful sermon on Daniel 6.  And lastly coffee from McDonald’s.

Lego City

I simply have to share the photo’s I took of MY Lego City this morning:

This is one of the pictures of my Lego City.  You’ll notice the building with the Red Roof.  This is actually 2 Lego sets that I own which were combined to make the Museum.  Mark added the entrance and wall in front last night… it is meant to be part of a ruined castle.

P1030317

This is the station I got with the passenger train set.  I added in the barrier and the turn gate from parts of other sets.

P1030318

What was left of the stable, was used to make this area for all the horses.  You will also notice the mechanic’s garage in the background which Mark made to house the motorbike, the only broken piece in my Lego sets (which I started collecting at 2 years old in 1987).

P1030319

This picture shows the Blue and Red house, which was the first BIG Lego set I owned.  It went off the market in 1987.  All the pieces are still there, but the men are a little faded.  It has been built on a different platform though so there would be more garden area.  I also improved the fireplace on the side.  You’ll also notice the lighthouse restaurant and the main street.  In the front right there is a postman with a letter box that I made.

P1030320

This picture is of a little beach bar that I made on Friday night, and the reason Mark and I were late in meeting our friends for supper – I had inspiration and wanted to finish!

P1030321

I also made the rock pool fishing area on Friday night using the pieces left over from other sets.  I still have all the pieces to all the sets, just some of them don’t fit in with the theme Mark and I were creating (like the fort), so we are using the sets to make things that fit in with the theme.

P1030322

This is the entire city as it looked this morning (we have made changes to it during the day.  The photo’s on those changes will be coming later.  The city takes up the baseboard of a single bed.

P1030324

And this is a hint on how we are expanding Lego City.  This is the construction in progress!

P1030325

What I love the most about Lego it can keep a creative mind entertained for hours.  It allows me to work with my hands.  It is an innocent distraction.  It brings back memories of my childhood and it is just general FUN!  It is definitely something I’ll never grow out of.

Admirable character traits of Disney Princesses(part 2)

The next character in my series on Disney princesses and their character traits is Cinderella.

Like Snow White, Cinderella was also the victim of a death in her family which lead to a jealous step-mother treating her in an abusive manner.  While Cinderella’s step-mother didn’t plan to have her killed, she did do everything in her power to make Cinderella’s life miserable.  Cinderella does have a number of admirable traits of genuine femininity:
  1. Never complaining– she never complained even though she was often dealt unfair cards, and had the people closest to her making her life miserable.
  2. Modest – during the day she was considered a plain women, she wasn’t vain about her appearance, even though she was beautiful, and even when she was given the beautiful gown by her fairy godmother she still kept that modesty.  She didn’t need expensive jewels to make herself look beautiful, the simple dress and her personality was everything she needed to wow the prince.
  3. Forgiving – at the end of the movie, she forgave the people who had wronged her in her life.  This, I feel, is her most admirable trait.
  4. A Servants Heart - she had a heart of service just as God commands us to have with others.  She was always willing to serve even the people who were nasty to her. (Added after Christephi's Comment - Thank you!)
I have mentioned three traits of Cinderella that are worth practicing.  Can you think of any more?  Post them in a comment below!

A Saturday well spent

I have had a wonderful week.  I have cooked a total of 4 meals, and I have another one planned for tomorrow.  The meal plan I got from What's For Dinner has worked beautifully well for me, and I cannot wait to see next week’s meal plan.

I set the table nicely for Mark and myself after making Chicken and Veg Pasta for lunch in my little kitchen.

Below is how I set the table.  I moved the table from the kitchen to the living room so we could watch an episode of Stargate SG-1 while we ate.  We have been watching for some time because we only watch while we eat.

P1030310

Below is a photograph of my kitchen (before I moved the table to the living room.  The food was busy cooking on the stove when I took this picture.

P1030308

Mark was busy building today.  I have a vine rose bush growing in the garden, but it didn’t have anything to climb, so it was lying in a heap on the ground.  Mark has spent the day building something for it to climb.  Even in the winter it got so hot in the sun he had to take his shirt off to stay cool.

P1030307

And this is what it looks like so far, but it’s not finished yet.

P1030311

While Mark worked out in the garden, I took advantage of the warm winter sun too.  I pulled out my knitting needles to carry on a scarf I never got around to finishing last winter.  I have since been inspired though to try and use it as part of a larger project (making a blanket), but I’ll see how it goes.  This is the work so far, it looks a little uneven near the top, but that is just because the stitches are scrunched up.

P1030313

Lastly, here is a photograph of my little girl, Zoey.  She’ll be 3 months old on 12 June.  Zoey is an English Cocker Spaniel.

P1030312

And that has been my beautiful relaxing Saturday!
